LEARNING OUTCOME 2

In regards to quotations, we were instructed in class to make sure that when quoting any text, that we must introduce, quote and analyze. This practice was specifically called a quote sandwich. A quote sandwich is an easy way to remember the order of the introduction, quote, and analysis. We were taught to give each quotation a proper introduction so it does not seem ill fitted within the text. We were also taught to give a thorough analysis following the quotation which in turn, functions to help fit the quotation in with the rest of the paragraph. We also learned how to use in text citations from both our instructor and the Little Seagull Handbook for using quotations. In various papers, I have used proper author citation and quotation integration methods. One example of this was in my last paper at the end of page two and beginning of page three where I properly introduced a quote by an author that I wanted to use, then quoted, cited the author’s last name in parentheses, then gave it a thorough analysis after in order to make sure that the quote fit within the paper. When a quote seems awkwardly placed, it most likely has not been introduced and analyzed in enough detail.
